Out With The Old

Hi Everybuddy -

Something very strange happened at our house today. Just as quickly as all the shiny, blinky, smelly things arrived - they were hauled out. Go figure! I was just getting used to the shrub in the living room. Imagine our surprise when Mom came down to tell us that they were busy "taking the tree down". Huh?

"Ya mean the prickly green shrub??!"

Whadya mean "taking the tree down"?? I wasn't done inspecting the ornaments yet! I don't get these holiday customs at all. Why in the world would a human drag a tree inside the house, go to the trouble to hang all sorts of stuff on it, give it water everyday, take pictures of it (like it's going to do something different than it did 10 minutes before!) then lug it back outside?? I had to see for myself:

"Yup. There it is.....alone and cold"

Sure enough. There it was. Alone on the front lawn. Alone and getting pelted by ice pellets. Oh yeah - that seems to be all we're getting instead of snow nowadays. Ice pellets. You know, the kind that hit you in the side of the face while you're trying to do your outside business. Anywoo.......everything was gone! Our stockings were gone. The shrub was gone. The tiny Santa's sleigh filled with tiny wrapped gifts was gone. Mom told us we had something important to do for the next couple days. Something about New Year's Revolutions.

"What's YOUR New Year's Revolution?"

Guess we've got some thinkin to do.

Khome on now - we know humans are stoopid - just ask Tubey!

When my hu-mom had a house, she and her SO used to get a live tree but they kept it on the dekhk outside AND then they would plant it in the yard -

My hu-mom got one of those Sibe trees - and she's thinking about keeping it out all year 'round - I

We didn't have a tree, but our stockings are gone too. At least we have treats leftover from Christmas!

It must have been contagious. Mom and Dad took down our upstairs tree today too! We hate this ice/snow/rain stuff too! YUCK! We are working on our resolutions.

Hi Echo! Thanks for coming to visit all of us. Our Servant has a huge big heart for Sibes like you because her first dog of her own as a grownup was one and she loved him.
This time of year we sure would like your built in coat. But since we don't have much hair at all, you can have all of our snow! You betcha!!!
Nice to meet you-

My mommy has a tree every year, except this! She didn't put it up cause she said there is a destructive tyrant in the house.

Ha-woo. Give the tree a hug next time you guys go out. It must feel really lonely and bare all alone out there.

Mom said our Christmas things are coming down on New Year's day. I don't know why.
Happy 2008, buddy!

HUGS - Sitka

Apple Cake
Ingredients:
3 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3 cups of self rising flour
1 ½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ teaspoon nutmeg
1 ½ teaspoon cinnamon
3 cups chopped apples (chopped in medium-small chunks, not diced)
¾ cup chopped nuts (optional)

Using blender – cream first four ingredients (eggs, sugar, vanilla, flour). Add dry ingredients and stir well. The mixture is going to be very stiff – You will think you need to add water or something… but trust me - don't. Mix in apples and nuts (mom had to do this with my hands). Bake in a greased and floured bundt pan (again, mom used her hands to put the mixture into the pan and press it down) at 325 degrees for 1 ½ hour

Honestly… this cooks up resembling a crunch coffee cake. It was SOOO good and moist (to mom and my surprise). I guess the apples really did give the mixture the moisture it needed.

We didn't have a tree, but mom took us hiking so we got to see lots o trees. I tried to water as many as I could, it's been kinda dry here in Texas.

Good thing our Mom is a slacker so ours is still up. It's on the to-do list for this week though.

Happy New Years, we're still working on revolutions. :)

I watched mom today while she went outside & took down all the lights & pretty things hanging in the bushes. We don't have a real tree inside, just one that smells fake. I mangaged to knock it down a couple times, but then mom blocked it off so I've had to look at it from afar. she said it's coming down tonight.

What's a resolution? Is that like when you spin around to chase your own tail?
