Avoiding Monday

Shyla heard it was Monday and wasn't quite sure she was willing
to deal with it.

Our Supervisor

It's a win for all of us when Shyla has a good day!  Yesterday she felt well enough to supervise color choices in the spare room/Mom's office re-do.  We're glad to have her opinion.

Shyla's Gotcha Day!

Hello friends!

A Gotcha Day anniversary is a good opportunity to bring you up to speed.  Many of you remember Shyla from our original pack.  She arrived when she was very young - only about a year old.  She was left in an overcrowded, overwhelmed shelter and had mere hours before some tough decisions had to be made.  She was emaciated to the point of it clearly being a case of neglect (there's a fine line between neglect and abuse!), and looked like the proverbial deer in the headlights from the noisy, chaotic environment she found herself in.  We slowly put some healthy weight back on her but over time, it became clear the early malnutrition had taken a toll.  There were significant nerve abnormalities in her hindquarters which we knew would cause some serious issues eventually.  Fast forward ten years (now) and those serious issues have arrived.  This is a good day:

Peaceful slumber is a win for our senior sweetheart.  Due to significant chronic nerve pain, tremors, and now a fracture which was recently found in her spinal vertebrae, we consider any day that she can relax a good day!  She's on a cocktail of potent meds which was carefully crafted by our amazing veterinary team who have followed her throughout her life.  The meds relieve her discomfort (on most days) and even allow her to play from time to time.  Despite her challenges her loving, gentle demeanor prevails.  Tomorrow is her GOTCHA DAY and we've been the lucky ones.  She's an inspiration for many and we look forward to a few more good years with our sweet girl.

A Girl's Prerogative

I don't always eat my breakfast.  But sometimes I'll change my mind if one of the pretty
cereal bowls is part of the presentation.

It's a girl's prerogative to change her mind.  It's just why they love me!

Big Britches

Hi Everybuddy -

Woo! It's been a few days since Mom has let me use the computer. She's was holed up in her bedroom with the laptop for a couple days because she had the flu. She said my paws are much too pawsome for the laptop so I had to be patient and wait till she felt better and could turn on the big computer. She's doing much better now which is good. Whew - we were waiting on her paw and tail and I need a rest! We're going to get a good night's sleep tonight because we smell SNOW in the air! That's right - they said it's going to snow tomorrow so I'll need all my energy to go in and out and in and out and in and out.

Today I'd like to share with you something that Mom is finding very amusing. Remember our Shy, demure little Shyla? You know - the one who only spoke when spoken to, and the one who would wait until she was invited to come up on the sofa? She has found her personality. Take a look:

That's what Mom saw when she went down to the family room. Shyla is now known as Little Miss Big Britches. Not only does she love to pile up ALL the bones for herself, she is wooing at Meeka (you know - The Prince) when he tries to take one! Woooooo! Nobuddy yacks at Meeka. He's been such a good sport about it. He's a bit perplexed and looks at Mom as if to say "Ummm.....she needs to read Chapter 3 in the manual!". In the meantime I'll have to talk to Shyla about sharing. Besides - those are mine anyway. Harrroorooroo!
